by Lawna Mackie
Narrator: Carolyn Jania
Length: 3 hour 30 minutes
Released: January 2021

Genre: Paranormal Christmas Romance

As far as twelve-year old Quinn is concerned Christmas has lost its magic. Since his father’s death life has lost its sparkle. His mom is now a widow struggling to put food on the table. Quinn is no help, and the mysterious illness afflicting him only makes things worse. Even Christmas, complete with decorated trees, ribbons and bows have no meaning…then along comes Jazira.

Jazira doesn’t know what happened to her former self, the eleven-year old little girl. She drowned, didn’t she, along with half the other folk of Cold Creek in 1911? Somehow, she’s grown four furry legs complimented with a large wolf head and body. Scared and alone, she reaches out to Quinn and a strong bond is formed. Jazira learns Quinn, and his mother, are threatened by a wealthy powerful citizen of Cold Creek. She is determined to protect her new family, no matter what. Christmas Eve finds Quinn staring up at the adorned tree and muttering a quiet prayer. Will the Spirits of Christmas grant his wish, or will the evil surrounding Cold Creek prevail once again?

I’m a small town girl with big world dreams. I was born in Jasper, Alberta, and my parents were outdoor enthusiasts. My dad was an avid fisherman and I’m certain my mother was Mother Nature. The love of my life is my husband. He, along with my animals are my inspiration for everything I write. I live for romance, and truly believe true love conquers all. From an early age you could always find me with my nose buried in a romance novel—that hasn’t changed. I write various forms of romance from contemporary, paranormal and fantasy to erotica.

Looking Forward
An interview with Jazira from Lawna Mackie’s Quinn’s Christmas Wish.

  • Reporter: Jazira, thank you for being our guest today. Not very many agree to speak about the mysterious lake and the flood of Bandit Creek. We hope you’ll answer some of our questions.
    • Jazira: Perhaps. She nodded her head.
  • Reporter: So, tell us Jazira, how old are you?
    • Jazira: I am twenty-four years old.
  • Reporter: And it says here that you haven’t been back to Bandit Creek in six years. Would that be correct?
    • Jazira: Yes, I left Bandit Creek when I was eighteen years old.
  • Reporter: What was Bandit Creek like as a child?
    • Jazira: Bandit Creek has its moments. It’s a beautiful place, but certainly not ordinary. Things changed when the flood hit.
  • Reporter: Yes, I can imagine the whole town changed because it was gone. The flood took care of that. Now, you say you were in the flood is that correct?
    • Jazira: Closes her eyes and nods her head slowly. My mother, father and myself were in a wagon when the water hit us. I remember hearing the screams. The water was so cold. My parents drowned.
  • Reporter: I’m very sorry dear. I’m told that you are from another country. You’re very beautiful. How old were you and can you tell us how you managed to survive?
    • Jazira: I was eleven years old and was pulled from Lost Lake by Samuel Campton. He was a nice fellow and like a parent to me. He married Amanda Drake and the two of them raised Quinn and myself.
  • Reporter: Oh yes. Quinn Drake. I remember reading about him also. He had a rare illness and it was said people feared the devil had possessed him. To this day we have no record of his whereabouts, or if he’s alive.
    • Jazira: Smiles sadly. He’s alive, though I haven’t seen him in many years. We were best friends, but we had a falling out and I haven’t seen him for a long time.
  • Reporter: A falling out? Sounds sad. And you say he’s still alive. He must be invisible because nobody seems to be able to locate him. Back then folks said the two of you were destined to marry.
    • Jazira: We were young, but like so many others it didn’t work out. I did something he couldn’t forgive me for. But I’ll leave it at that.
  • Reporter: Okay. Well let’s move on. Tell us a bit more about Bandit Creek.
    • Jazira: Back when I was in school, people weren’t always nice. To this day the town is full of bizarre happenings, superstition and death. But some folks such as that nasty George Ellis didn’t deserve to live.
  • Reporter: Bandit Creek has had its share of villains. How about we talk about something happy. Christmas is almost upon us, do you have plans Jazira?
    • Jazira: She reaches up to her neck fiddling with an odd necklace of sorts. Christmas is my favorite time of year, or it used to be. I will always remember my Christmases with Samuel, Amanda and…Quinn. Our last Christmas together was seven years ago. I may go back for Christmas this year.
  • Reporter: Is it true your wedding day was to be on a Christmas day? What happened?
    • Jazira: Yes, that is true, but I’m sorry I can’t speak about it. She wipes a tear from her eye.
  • Reporter: Okay, I’m sorry to upset you. The necklace you’re wearing looks very old, it could almost resemble a collar.
    • Jazira: It was a gift I received for Christmas many years ago. I never part with it.
  • Reporter: It must have come from somebody very special. Care to share who gave it to you?
    • Jazira: I think that’s another secret for me to keep.
  • Reporter: It’s been a pleasure Jazira. I do hope you’ll stop back again to let us know how your visit goes should you decide to visit Bandit Creek this Christmas. And if you happen to see Quinn Drake, I’d love to interview him as well.
    • Jazira: Thank you, it’s sure to be an interesting Christmas.

BOOK BLITZ w/EXCERPT - FANTASY - MY GARGOYLE by Lawna Mackie

MY GARGOYLE
by Lawna Mackie
Publication date: October 1st 2018
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

BLURB
Ryder, commander of the Levarian legion of gargoyles, has a problem. He keeps dreaming on duty—and falling, neither of which gargoyles EVER do. Every dream is of the same woman, and every time, it brings on red-hot, searing pain in the crescent-shaped scar on his palm. Driven to find the woman and the reason for his bizarre dreams, he lets himself fall—right into to a place he never knew existed and to the woman of his dreams.

Labeled a misfit, Tempest was snatched away as a child and imprisoned in the hidden realm of Misfit Mountain. Locked up by Fedor, the ruler of the kingdom, who intends to take her as his bride, she has no choice but to brave the dangerous snow and ice of the Mountain to escape. Despairing, faced with the impossible choices of Fedor or death, love is the last thing on her mind, until Ryder snatches her from the air and into a whole new realm of feeling.

Can Ryder find the key to freeing her and save them both?
EXCERPT:
The scratching continued in the snow above, bringing her demise closer by the second. She refused to go down without a fight, and she’d end her life before Fedor ever laid his grotesque hands on her again. In all probability, his touch would kill her anyway.
She held her breath, trying to cease her shivers, knowing she must lie perfectly still and wait…wait for the exact moment before they broke through the small barrier of snow that encased her frigid body—a body that could not and would not freeze to death.
She braced her hands down at her sides, readying to push straight up.
Please let the snow beneath me hold my weight.
Her thigh muscles ached with tension as she contemplated the thought of moving.
Count to three.
They’d expect her to be in a slumber.
One
Her feet and calves tightened ready for action.
Two
Her fists clenched into tight balls, prepared to strike. Her stomach rolled, threatening to hurl, but she knew it was empty, and had been for some time.
This is it. Three!
Tempest unleashed whatever strength she had left in her tired, battered body, bursting through the thin barrier of snow.
Two paws hit her square in the chest, and a pair of large glowing red eyes met her stare. Startled and off balance, Tempest stumbled backward. Her feet slid out from underneath her.
Rogue had found her, not the Vemlers or Fedor. She slid downward on her stomach, her arms desperately grasping at anything to stop her fall.
“Rogue!”
The beast pounced through the snow down the hill after her, trying to grasp a piece of her with his large fangs.
It was too late; her body flew through the air. She reached out and snagged a tree branch, to swing in the forsaken snowstorm at the mercy of a small twig protruding from a tiny ledge. Looking down into a vast crevasse with no bottom in sight, she thought maybe she’d get what she wished for, after all.
“No, I take it back, I don’t want to die. Creators, help me, please. Why do you hate me so?” Tempest squeaked, looking up into the sky, which continued to dump endless amounts of snow. Her hands, next to frozen, would not support her weight for long.
Above, Rogue perched on the small ledge preparing to jump after her. “Rogue, no! Stay!” she pleaded. A single tear rolled down her cheek, symbolizing her desperation and fear. The crazy beast would die with her; she knew that. If she fell, he would jump after her.
Rogue howled a mournful cry. His large grey-and-tan-spotted body crouched low. Tempest knew he was angry; his pointed ears lay flat against his large square head. She felt his frustration through his piercing red eyes. She swallowed a shriek as her hands slipped slightly.
Rogue moved even closer to the edge, causing chunks of snow to fall in her direction. “Rogue, listen to me. Don’t do this. You don’t need to end your life because of me.” Even as those words tumbled out of her mouth, Tempest knew the poor beast had no life worth living on the miserable mountain. They were both misfits not suitable to live with the regular folk on Levare. And there was no way to escape this miserable rock covered with ice and snow.
Tempest closed her eyes, wishing she had the power or ability to remove them from this horrid situation. It was impossible, of course, because she had no gifts—only misfortune. Poor Rogue also shared in the bad luck. He was a Gargdog, half gargoyle and half dog. His problem was his wings. A spell gone wrong, they were barely large enough for a pixie to fly with—useless wings on a grand creature. That’s what misfits were—rejects from Levare, banished from the world as though they never existed.
Her body trembled with the last bit of strength oozing from her limbs.
“Rogue goes with Tempest! I will not stay here without you,” the Gargdog growled in the form of words. She smiled up at him, proud of his speech. “I see you’ve been practicing since they separated us.” It was her attempt to lighten the mood.
“I’m sorry, Rogue,” Tempest squeaked as she slipped another half-finger length.
“Rogue loves Tempest. Not want Tempest to die without him.” Rogue hung his head. She felt his sadness.
“Rogue, I don’t have much strength left,” Tempest said weakly. “I’m not afraid of death. You know I could never be Fedor’s bride. His touch would kill me, anyway. This way is better. I won’t feel a thing,” she lied, trying to sound brave.
“We will go together. Neither will I live under his control any longer.”
Her arms now shook uncontrollably. Her hands had no feeling, but her brain forced the signal to her fingers to grasp as tightly as she could. She closed her eyes and said a quick, silent prayer for all the other misfits who suffered like her and Rogue.
We’ve endured so much pain in our lives. Please, Creators, let us have a painless death. With her silent prayers complete, Tempest opened her eyes, looked up, and whispered, “I love you, Rogue,” and let go.

BOOK BLITZ w/EXCERPT - SUSPENSE - FORGET ME NOT by Lawna Mackie

FORGET ME NOT
by Lawna Mackie
Publication date: June 19th 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

BLURB
At the age of twelve, Pippin Bartlett, is abducted by her mentally ill father who goes on a killing rampage. Fortunately she is rescued outside the small town of Snow Lake, Manitoba by ex-sniper and CSIS Agent Matt Lalor, who shoots and reportedly kills the man although the body is never recovered.

Fast-forward ten years and we find Pippin writing successful novels in New York under the alias of Avery Woods. Her words help lessen the impact of the terror she lived through. That is until a series of fan letters arrive. And not just from any fan, but one who sounds a lot like her father and is determined to finish the failed job from ten years ago.

Matt Lalor has secrets of his own. A career that ended badly and one he wishes to forget. He lives his life in a remote cabin in Snow Lake where, whenever possible, he avoids people. With two notable exceptions he mostly succeeds. The first is the day he is required to rescue a twelve-year old girl. Never missing a shot he believes whole-heartedly the man is dead. The second is the day twenty-two year old Pippin drives into a snowbank on his property to turn his world upside down. She’s being hunted by a killer for a second time, and Matt refuses to let harm come to her. What he doesn’t expect is for the fearless and sassy beautiful young woman to capture his heart in the process.
EXCERPT:
The scope allowed him to see perfectly through the dark night sky. His target held a knife in his outstretched hand. He had a perfect shot.
“Shit!” He and Monty inched forward.
“Stay away from me!” the girl screamed. “I swear I’ll jump.”
The hideous laugh made his blood curdle and the hairs stand on the back of his neck.
“You’re too scared to jump. You won’t do it,” Baxter jeered.
It was now or never.
“She might not jump, but I have no problem pulling my trigger,” Matt yelled, never taking him out of his sights.
Startled, James Baxter turned in the direction of his voice, then let out a string of vulgar words.”
“Fuck! It doesn’t matter. She’ll be dead anyway. I told that stupid bitch Clarice. If I can’t have her nobody will. Shut the hell up James! I can’t think!” Still holding the knife, he clutched his head.
“Back up slowly Baxter. It doesn’t need to end this way.”
“Fuck you!”
Pippin continued to sob.
“Pippin, my name is Matt. Are you hurt?” he shouted out to her.
She lifted her head towards the direction of his voice. “No. Well, yes, a little.”
“Shut up Pippin,” Chance shouted at her. “Don’t you fucking talk to him.” He moved up the log again and Pippin screamed, clinging to the top of the tree.
Matt heard the crack and groan from the taxed wood. It was never simple.
“Baxter, you’ve got one last chance. Back up now!”
Slowly and quietly he calmed himself and took a few deep breaths. He closed his eyes and visualized his target. Opening his eyes he stared into the scope and the cross hairs aligned to the man’s head. Normally he’d shoot for the chest, but he was lying on his stomach.
“Pippin, close your eyes,” Matt shouted.
Baxter jumped and Matt pulled the trigger. The bullet found its mark.
The tree cracked again because Baxter’s body rolled off the side and hung swinging in the air caught up in a large limb.
“Dammit! Pippin, don’t move. Stay absolutely still.”
He swung the gun over his shoulder and ran for the base of the tree, but it was too late. The large root was unable to take the weight of Baxter’s body swinging in the air. He heard the cracks as it lost its hold to the earth.
Pippin screamed wildly. Monty barked.
Before he could reach the tree it tore from the ground and fell through the air along with Pippin’s scream.
“Fuck!” Matt screamed, watching everything cascade downward and plunge into the water.
If she managed to survive the fall she’d drown for sure.
Monty whined and barked as he stared over the edge. Matt knew Monty was the best chance the girl had. The dog would make it faster down the hill than he could.
“Monty. Find. Retrieve.”
What he hadn’t expected was what the crazy dog did next. Instead of tearing off down the hill, he took off at a run and leapt off the cliff.
“No!” Matt yelled.

MAMMOTH LOVE
Treasures of the Heart, #3
by Lawna Mackie
Genre: Romantic Adventure, Suspense

Jenny Silver Willow knows all to well how the lust for gold and money can drive people crazy—literally. Dawson City, Yukon, was rich with that history. The recent opening of the Charlie Avery Gold Mine, brought attention to the historic town and with it a stream of people thinking they too would strike it rich.

Dante Carella was new to Dawson City, coming straight from Italy. What she hadn’t expected was to have this stranger break her heart and then in the next moment steal it. He certainly hadn’t arrived in town like the others in search of gold and gems.

Dante had the worst task ever—deliver news of his best friend’s death to a woman named Jenny, who lived halfway across the world. He expected tears, anger and questions, but what he hadn’t anticipated was to feel the instant connection between Jenny and himself. Dante decides to leave town sooner than later, believing it will be best for everyone—especially Jenny.

Despite Dante’s attempts to separate himself from the beautiful woman, a band of professional thieves throw them together where they end up prisoners caught up in a life and death heist escapade.

Jenny believes in her animal spirit guides and this time her owl has been revealing more than one important message—but what exactly was that message? She hoped she could figure it out because their lives would depend on it.

Cast in Stone
Treasures of the Heart, #2
by Lawna Mackie
Genre: Romantic Adventure, Suspense

Emma Taggart is a headstrong determined woman who knows exactly what she wants. That would be Finn Avery—not because he’s a multimillionaire with a mountain of gold—literally, but because all her life she’s had a crush on him. He also happens to be her best friend’s brother.

When Emma finds herself in the small town of Dawson City, Yukon, for a second time, she realizes the beauty of the wilderness has grown on her. Granted the place is a far cry from the glamorous city of Chicago. Her job was to film and produce a special story for a prominent Chicago fashion magazine. It seemed a perfect way for her to spend time with Finn.

Trouble begins when Finn’s best friend and partner passes away. Finn blames himself for the death and turns away from those who care. Emma knows he cares for her, the heated moments spent together spoke the truth, but now she can’t seem to break through to him.

When a pompous billionaire, Marco Bishop, comes parading into town offering to buy the Charlie Avery Gold Mine, Finn is furious. The man has little respect for the town and its heritage, even worse he has come to fancy Emma and is determined to have her as his next conquest. Not only does Marco want the gold mine, but he’s certain he knows where to find diamonds. Marco persuades Emma to take a day trip with him up into the mountains, but by the time she realizes there is more to his plans, she knows she’s in terrible trouble.

Finn suspects Emma has been taken against her will. He is determined to find her and bring her home. It’s another adventure into the brutal wilderness, where the rivers are as wild as the animals they encounter.

Along the way Emma, Finn and Groot…the baby wolverine…yes, a baby wolverine, discover some interesting clues cast in the stones. Finn refuses to let anything happen to Emma but wonders if it might be too late. His great-great uncle once wrote—true treasures come from the heart.

Gold Fever
Treasures of the HearT, #1

Could it be true? The gold existed. A treasure map alluded to such a find, but for over a century it was rumored a fable, one told by an old crazy man—Samantha (Sam) Avery’s great-great-uncle.

One huge problem existed. Her brother Finn sent her the map and told her to run. Sam knew her big brother was in trouble and she had to help him.

In Dawson City, Yukon, Hunter Gray, outfitter and guide had been hired to do a job. At the airport, pick up a Sam Avery and take him to the old Charlie Avery cabin up the mighty river.

What Hunter Gray hadn’t expected was for Sam to be a Samantha, who wore fashion designer shoes, had a sharp tongue and a goddess-like appearance—the vast wilderness of the Yukon was no place for somebody like her.

Sam had to learn quickly. How hard could it be to ride a horse and live without running water and restaurants for a week? It didn’t matter, her brother needed her and Sam had to convince the ruggedly handsome man and his wolf… yes…wolf, that she was up to the adventure.

Spending night and day together, Samantha knows the attraction between them is growing quickly. Not only is Samantha determined to rescue her brother, but she must now save her heart from a man who doesn’t believe in love.
