The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . THE DARKNESS WITHIN (Etherya's Earth, #3) . . . I have to say that the dream cast put together would make for an incredible scene. The series would be on the list of most desired with a cast like this and the mix of fantasy/paranormal. Darkrip and Arderin have been a part of the storyline since book one. Now we see more of them both and what could/would/should happen between the two of them. Arderin is the sister to the current king of the Vampyre. Darkrip is the son of the Dark Lord Crimeous. What could the two possible have for each other beside pain and darkness? Each have their own inner struggles and their own strength. The will need each other to move forward and make things in their world better. Their story takes a little bit closer to the arcing suspense of the Dark Lord Crimeous.
I highly suggest to listen/read this series in order. Each story for the most part stands alone but the underlying arc stretches across book boundaries. How will Darkrip and Arderin escape the captivity? How will they succumb to the passion and attraction brewing between them?
This was a series that I could not speed up to my normal listening speed. I had to make it just enough for me not to feel like things was dragging and so that I could enjoy the tempo, pitch, tone, and cadence of Devon Wilcox voice.

Arderin, princess of the illustrious Vampyre kingdom, has always marched to the beat of her own drum. Motivated by a calling to heal others, frustration consumes her since her brother King Sathan doesn't understand her desire to study medicine in the human world. Moreover, the son of the Dark Lord Crimeous has moved to their compound, and he seems obsessed with driving her absolutely insane. Hating him for his sharp tongue and dark nature, she tries to squelch her unwelcome attraction to him.
Darkrip has been enthralled by Arderin since the night he knocked her unconscious and sent her down the river, prompting the end of the War of the Species. Never has he met a woman more beautiful and passionate. Frustrated by her dramatics, and consumed by his desire for her, he vows to stay away. For, the son of Crimeous, with his malevolent blood, could never have children or a normal life.
When Crimeous threatens both their lives, forcing them into a shared captivity, they do everything possible to escape and survive. As their connection grows, so does their attraction. Knowing they have no future together and the consequences of furthering their relationship would be disastrous, they forge ahead in the conflict against the Dark Lord. But the universe is fickle and can muddle with even the best-laid intentions...
The Etherya's Earth series is best listened to in order so that the listener can enjoy the evolution of the characters. After all, the author loves a good twist and wants the listener to uncover them organically. However, fans of romance - rest assured, each book has its own featured hero/heroine and HEA.
USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Hefner writes steamy paranormal and sci-fi romance as well as contemporary romance under the pen name Ayla Asher. Rebecca is a huge science dork who loves karaoke and she'll probably try to make a TikTok with you if she ever meets you in person.
Devon Wilcox has loved manipulating his voice to sound like different characters since he was a kid. Rebecca chose him for this series because of his deep, magnetic voice and his talent expressing multiple character emotions.
