The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . VIKING'S RANSOM (Viking Ancestors: Rise of the Dragon, #4) . . . If you thought you were in love with the other hot sexy hunks of this Rise of the Dragon  series then you need to be prepared to fall all out head over heels for Eirik. I love these stories most because it mixes in the past and future, the strength of history, lore, and legend, with romance so strong. We got shifters with secrets and determination. Kenzie was a trooper. Eirik you get to see a lot more of. The bread crumbs from before are nothing. I have to say that I even enjoyed aspect of the character Hel. She was a devious one but she was necessary.

Sky Purington seems to deliver to me what I was missing when I was not sure what it was that I was missing. I love reading her series and getting glimpses at more characters that I am sure we will run in to later on down the line. The series has given me one of my most favorite shifters, dragons. I am a lover of her writing and characters. The settings bring you to varies times and cultures.

BLURB
Kenzie is determined to be there for her sisters no matter what it takes. Even if it means giving herself over to her fated mate, Viking Eirik Sigdir. When she ends up traveling through time to tenth century Scandinavia, she’s ready for whatever comes her way. Until a chance encounter with Hel, the Goddess of Helheim, who has long loved Eirik.

Having recognized Kenzie from the moment he saw her picture in the twenty-first century, Eirik realizes the time has finally come. A secret close to the heart is about to be revealed, and the stunning red-head is the only person capable of protecting what matters to him most.

Unfortunately, Hel has already stolen Kenzie away. Now he needs to convince the goddess to give him back his bargaining chip because of a little-known prophecy. One that foretells he must offer up the woman he loves as ransom to get back what has been taken from him.

“I am not trying to seduce you,” he said softly. “I just thought you would like to bathe and relax after what we experienced earlier.” He eyed their surroundings. The moss covered rock and towering pines blowing in the wind. “This place is soothing, is it not?”
“It is,” she said just as softly, her eyes on him as he pulled off his boots. “But considering your behavior with Einnar, more so me, I really don’t think us getting naked together is going to help matters.”
Probably not but he was going to anyway and hoped she would too.
“I will not touch you, Kenzie,” he assured as he pulled off his jerkin and turned around. “And I will not look your way until you’re in the water.”
“But you’ll peek,” she countered.
“Not if you don’t want me to,” he replied, perfectly honest.
He didn’t miss the humor in her voice nor the sound of her pulling off her own boots. “You’ve changed since I met you…and that wasn’t all that long ago.”
“Can you blame me?” He yanked off his pants. “It’s an indescribable feeling being near people again without affecting them adversely.” He searched for the right words. Ones that didn’t sound too affectionate or caring. “It is…a true honor to be near you.”
“An honor?” she murmured before muttering under her breath, “I’d say the honor’s all mine.”
He couldn’t stop a small smile, well aware she wasn’t referring to being near him but admiring his backside. Seconds later, the scent of her arousal hit him, and he bit back a groan.
“Are you in the water yet, Kenzie?” he said over his shoulder.
A few moments later he heard splashing before she said, “Yup.”
Though he should probably tell her to look away too because there was no stopping his erection, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He had not lain with Hel in far too long let alone felt her eyes on him. A woman’s eyes. So he strolled right in well aware that though Kenzie tried to avert her eyes, she was failing miserably.
“Hell, you’re not making this easy on me, are you?” she muttered as her cheeks flushed pink and her dragon eyes flared.
He bit back another grin at the numerous flattering thoughts flitting through her mind. How impressed she was with everything he had to offer. How much she'd like to touch him. To see if his muscles were as solid as they looked. By the time he lowered into the water, her dragon eyes were outright sizzling.
“Is the water to your liking?” he asked, trying not to stare at her slender shoulders. Trying not to imagine how soft her luminous wet skin must be. How silky she would feel against him. What was hidden from him underwater.

Two men tore Erica’s world apart in another life. One was the man she loved and the other the enemy. Now both are back, and it’s up to her to make sure an ancient blood feud doesn’t destroy everyone she cares about. That means steering clear of her dragon mate. But sometimes memories are too strong and the past too powerful. Or so it seems when she slips back in time and ends up on an unexpected journey with a man she was determined to forget.

Having confronted who he once was and what he did in a previous life, Kodran Sigdir sets out to seek answers. He needs to better understand his part in an age old war and to keep his distance from Erica. They should remain apart. Yet destiny seems to be drawing him back to her. How he once felt. All he gave up. Could things go differently this time? Or will the risk to their people be too great? Find out as Erica, Kodran and their kin go up against the enemy one last time in Pride of a Viking, the epic conclusion of Viking Ancestors’ Kin.

“Are you sure Hallstein was your mate in another life?” His eyes held hers as he spun her so that they were facing each other. “Do you have memories of your time with him?” He shook his head, spoke through clenched teeth and worked hard to keep rage from taking over as he caught glimpses of what she had endured. “He did things to you, Erica. Terrible things. Things that make no sense given you were Maeva…his mate.”
She leaned back, clenched her jaw and averted her eyes. “Yes, he was my mate. I’m sure of it.”
“Then why can’t you look at me when you say that?” He tilted her chin until she had no choice but to meet his eyes. “What aren’t you telling me? What’s the missing piece?” He frowned. “Because something’s not adding up.”
“It doesn’t…you just...” She frowned as well. “You need to let this go. You need to let me go. It’s the only way this is going to work. It’s the only hope we have.”
“And where am I supposed to let you go to?” He glanced around to remind her where they were before his eyes returned to hers. “Because it’s out of my control, yes?”
“You know what I mean.”
“Do I?” He stepped a bit closer and never removed his fingers from her chin. “Because as far as I can tell you want me to believe you desire Hallstein when that’s the furthest thing from the truth. I think you’re trying to push me away so that you can somehow save everyone all on your own.”
Because he was remembering his last life, he remembered what Maeva had looked like. While they shared the same tall, lithe build with curves in all the right places, he found Erica more stunning in this life. Her eyes were varying shades of striking green that seemed to shift with her mood, and her warm skin tone was luminous. He wanted to feel her soft skin against him. Touch every last inch of her.
She went very still as their eyes held. Or so one would think if they couldn’t detect the slight tremor that went through her. Shivers that only translated to another dragon. He also noticed that she had gone from momentarily vulnerable to completely closed off despite her physical reaction.
“You’re good at that,” he murmured, shifting even closer to see if he could bring out that tremor even more. “Trying to be strong for everyone else all the time. How long have you played that part?” While he should have remained compassionate and thankful, his inner dragon was flaring. The jealousy that reared whenever he thought about her in the enemy’s arms. “How long have you been playing the part of a woman trying to convince Hallstein that you’re his? How long have you been—”
“No,” she cut him off, yanked her chin away and narrowed her eyes. “What I’ve done to help our people is not because—”
“Because you’re meant to be together?” he cut her off just as readily, as he turned things around on her. “Because you’re not, are you?” He shook his head and narrowed his eyes as well. “You’re not supposed to be with him.” His voice dropped to a whisper as the truth hovered just out of reach. Like a memory he was right on the verge of remembering. “You never were, but something happened…”
Something he needed to understand, so he thought fast. If one thing had been proven true with his kin and their mates it was that intimacy seemed to speed up their mental connections. So why not get things moving in that direction?
It seemed Erica followed his line of thought because a moment later she started to move away but he caught her. With an arm around her lower back, he yanked her against him, cupped the back of her neck and kissed her.
The moment he did, everything changed.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . HER WOUNDED DRAGON (The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #4.5) . . . Sky Purington had joined Milly Taiden’s Paranormal Dating Agency in Kindle World. I love both sets of series. I loved even more they are combined I get to see some of my favorite aspects of reading each and have them put together to make the read that much more. I have been waiting on this one since it was announced. I pounced all over it and was not disappointed. This read has secrets from both side. It was time that secrets be revealed. There maybe a secret you were not expecting but will greatly enjoy. This was a quickie that would most certainly get you going. I have said it many times before. I love dragons. This one was no exception. Kage and Vivienne together made this one special.

Kage and Vivienne both have things the wish to keep guarded. They never expected the other to become so important. You find more dragons and more secrets. More characters to draw you in to the series. And just play more. Dragon heat can be the best. It scorches the world around them. Fans of either series, this is a must read. Dragon mating can set the world afire.

Julie dashed all hope of close contact with Viv when she sat between them. Soon after, the only waitress in the joint leaned over their table far enough to offer an ample view of her cleavage as she batted her lashes at him. “What’ll ya have, handsome?”
Kage gestured at the girls. “Ladies first.”
“Wine’s fine,” Julie said.
“Long Island Iced Tea, please,” Vivienne murmured. “Double the tequila.”
Interesting. Liquid courage?
Julie’s eyes widened on Viv before she spoke to the waitress. “Something to munch on too, please.”
“Sure.” The waitress tossed down a menu. Her eyes never left Kage. “And you, sweetheart?”
“Whatever you have on tap’s fine.” He winked just to see if Viv reacted. “The stronger, the better.”
Viv didn’t react. Not outwardly. But he got the impression the waitress had a target on her back.
“So, Julie.” Kage rested his arm on the back of Julie’s seat, yet another test to see how her assistant would react. “Tell me more about yourself.” He offered a casual smile. One designed to cultivate trust. “Running a P.I. business sounds intriguing.”
“It does…it is.” Julie nodded. “Very intriguing.”
“I’d love to hear more.”
“Yeah, sure.” Julie began pressing the pad of her thumb against the edge of the table as though trying to pinpoint how to spin her bullshit tale. “It’s…complicated.”
As complicated as not having researched her lie before telling it.
“Complicated, how?”
“Like, just…well, you know…”
He warmed his smile even more. “I’m afraid I don’t.”
Julie swallowed, her eyes glued to his as she tried to come up with something.
“It’s complicated because it’s detective work,” Viv cut in as the waitress plopped their drinks down, didn’t bother with a food order but flashed five fingers at him, winked then sauntered off. He supposed that meant she’d be available for sex out back in five.
Figure the odds.
“Well, then, tell me about detective work.” He grinned at Viv. “Is it as boring as it sounds?” A languid grin curled his lips. “Or can you make it sound exciting?”
He didn’t miss the catch of her breath.
“I suppose that depends on what you’re investigating,” she replied before she brought the straw to her lips and sucked.
He’d been around a lot of beautiful women who offered to do all sorts of creative things with their mouths, but nothing compared to the way Viv worked a straw. A bolt of lust slammed into him as her sexy-as-sin lips wrapped around that little bit of plastic and sucked up over half her drink.
There was no stopping his arousal.
Or his low growl.
He didn’t care who she was or if she might have been planted by the enemy, he wanted her. And it didn’t matter where. His eyes skirted from the bathrooms to the rear entrance to the damn linen closet. Then his eyes dropped to the table. All it would take was a little dragon magic, and he could bend her right over this. None would be the wiser.
And if she wanted to keep sucking on that little straw the whole time, who was he to judge?
Meanwhile, Julie’s eyes were wide as saucers on him, and Viv had gone perfectly still. Too still. That’s when it hit him. A scent unlike any other. Sweet. Spicy.
Female dragon.
But not just any female.
Her.
Vivienne.

Virtual Tour - Fury of a Viking (The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #4) by Sky Purington

Fury of a Viking
The MacLomain Series
Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #4
by Sky Purington
Date of Publication:  April 17th 2017
Cover Artist:  Tamra Westberry
Genre:  Time-Travel Fantasy Romance

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . FURY OF A VIKING (The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #4) . . . This one was different than the other two of this series that I have read. This one had a more intense feel to it. I found more myth and magic. A deeper, richer feel of connection to the gods. The belief of what was to come and following a path.

Shannon got herself a huge surprise in both content and context. She get a trip of a lifetime. She experiences an adventure that changes her concepts on life and death. She gets to experience this all with her daughter and an added bonus.

Matthew had dealt with much. He had withstood much. Now, he refuses to lose the last hold on life that he had. His son. The gods are not finished with him. He had been heard. He received help from unlike sources, but it will all proved to be for a reason.

I enjoyed this read but found myself a bit lost with some of the mentions toward some of the gods and their children. I have a lot of work to do to get caught up on Viking lore and myths.  I found me another good story to push forward in The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin series.

The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin series:
Rise of a Vinking – The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #1
Vengeance of a Viking – The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #2
A Viking Holiday – The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #2.5
Soul of a Viking – The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #3
Fury of a Viking – The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors’ Kin, #4

BLURB
Shannon usually prefers the dead to the living. But then running a funeral parlor offers a different perspective. Peace and escape. Or at least it did until the day she’s summoned by her sister to their Winter Harbor chalet in Maine. Now she knows the truth. The veil between worlds is far thinner than she thought. In fact, it’s so thin she can’t prevent her and her daughter, Emily, from slipping back in time.

Of dragon blood, Matthew Sigdir has suffered more loss than most. A wife. Sister. Now, because of a vicious enemy, possibly his son, HÃ¥kon. Infuriated, determined to find his child, he heads north over unforgiving land. What he doesn’t expect is a twenty-first century little girl and her beautiful mother, Shannon, to join him on his quest. Nor does he expect Hel to show them favor. And there’s no turning away Loki’s daughter when she offers help. Now they have to navigate not only through the elements of a wicked Scandinavian winter but Helheim itself, the underworld of the dead.

While they travel, Matthew and Shannon are forced to face their pasts. What they left behind and all that haunts them. As they do, old wounds heal. Hope grows. Love sparks. Through it all, Emily leads them ever closer to HÃ¥kon. She’s the key. But is it already too late? Will they make it in time to save Matthew's son? Or is the enemy one step ahead of them?

Spicy Excerpt

Matthew nodded, more and more impressed by her. He said nothing but watched her drink, enthralled yet again by her appearance. Her slender body. The fine lines of her profile.
She possessed a quiet, mesmerizing sort of elegance and he found himself imagining what her dragon might look like. Would it match the sleek blackness of her hair or would it be the addictive blue of her eyes? He imagined she would make a stunning addition to his homeland as she flew over its turbulent waters, the sea spray coating her body in shimmering moisture. Which made his eyes fall to the plumpness of her lips. The moisture left behind by the mead. Which led to the way she had tasted when he kissed her.
“Matthew?” she said softly with that tempting tone she was so good at. It was designed to be soothing and compassionate for those going through difficult times, but his dragon heard a little something else as well. A seductiveness he was fairly certain she didn’t know she emitted. A sensuality he suspected was her inner beast responding to his.
“Matthew?” she repeated, tilting her head ever-so-slightly in question. “Are you with me?”
Oh, he was with her all right.
Just in the last way he intended. A way he thought he had been able to set aside.
“Yes,” he managed, his voice a little gruff as he became overly aware of her scent still lingering on him. “I am with you, Shannon.” He stood. “But as you said before, it is time to rest. We’ll talk more tomorrow, yes?”
“Sure, if that’s what you’d prefer.” She looked at him with concern, obviously refocused on the battle and what had happened to him. “Whenever you need to talk, I’ll do my best to listen, Matthew. What you’ve experienced, what you’re going through, isn’t easy.”
Much to his dismay, sexual frustration only grew as he pulled on his tunic and boots. He didn’t want to talk but do something else entirely. And that only fed his aggravation. He should want to get to the bottom of things.
Yet his muddled mind remained focused on her scent.
Her looks.
On how she would feel beneath him.
“It’s only normal to be feeling what you are right now,” she murmured as they headed back. “It’s normal to want to find relief from all the stress you’re under.”
At first, he didn’t realize what she was talking about until he heard the switch of her breathing in the darkness and caught the sweetness of her arousal. She was catching glimpses of his thoughts and referring to his untimely lust. As they cut through a narrow corridor of rock and were forced to walk single file, his eyes dropped to her shapely backside, and he almost groaned.
Was it normal to feel so strongly about her right now? To imagine pressing her against the wall and closing his lips over hers more firmly this time? Then to fall to his knees and inhale her desire? When Shannon cleared her throat, and her heart rate increased even more, he knew for certain she heard his thoughts. And was likely even well aware of his arousal through senses alone.
Especially if they were dragon mates.
He could deny it all he wanted, but there was no mistaking the way he responded to her. The jealousy he felt not only when Kodran pulled her close but when Cameron put his arm around her. He might have a real problem. Though he assumed he was well in control of himself around female dragons, it seemed he was wrong. Because the last thing he felt when she stopped short, and he came against her back, was in control.
“What is it?” he murmured, unable to stop from lowering his head and inhaling the warmth of her skin. “Why did you stop?”
“I just had the strangest feeling,” she whispered.
A shiver of awareness rippled through her when his hands landed on either side of her slim waist. She liked the feeling of him behind her like this. And he liked it just as much.
“What kind of feeling?” he managed as he stepped even closer and kept inhaling. He was so aroused he could barely remember why he shouldn’t be. In fact, any sense of decency was just about gone.
