   The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SLAY ME (The Purintan Coven, #3) . . . Kyle and Cassandra were different and almost the same. I really like Kyle. I like Cassandra because she was not a puppet. She took a stand and made her own decision. For the most part she was an independent. Here you get a bigger dose of more. There was an extra layer here that I was not expecting. I liked it. 

 Of course, our duo narration team of Buhr and Cendese made all the difference. You got the familiar with out all the familiar.

Kyle Logan has been a 16-year-old bad boy for three years, ever since he became a vampire. After a stint at the rehab center run by the Brothers of Temperance, Kyle has finally kicked his blood addiction. Cassandra Xander wants two things in 10th grade: a car and the chance to attend a traditional high school. She loved being homeschooled growing up, especially since her family moved every six months for Helsing Incorporated, but now that her mother is founding a slayer training academy in La Jolla, California, Cassandra is excited by the opportunity to attend La Jolla Cove High.  

When Kyle witnesses Cassandra give a verbal reckoning to a dog owner who leaves her beagle locked in a sweltering car, Kyle makes his move. He loves that Cassandra is smart, intense, and willing to break rules.     The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . HUNT ME (The Purintan Coven, #2) . . . Audio duo team of Buhr and Cendese brought me the familiar with their voices, pacing, and cadence. This was a little quicker to resolve than book one of the series. In this one we still get to see Morgan(loved her) and some of the others from book one. But there's more focus on Esma and Chase. Chase finds his backbone and Esma seems to have lost a bit of her spunk and sparkle. Here was another side of a few of the characters we had glimpses at in book one. An addition that was actually and addition to the already growing series.

An all-girls vampire camping trip turns deadly when a Sasquatch hunter is accidentally killed.  

All Esma Siban wants this summer is to stay out of her stepmother's way. When her stepsister, Morgan, suggests a road trip to Oregon to visit a friend from high school, Esma jumps on the idea. A camping trip sounds like the perfect way to help Esma recover from breaking up with her boyfriend. But when Esma and Morgan encounter a stalker, Esma's fangs come out.

The death of a Sasquatch hunter wasn't on their itinerary. A terrified Esma is unsure what to do next, so she texts her ex-boyfriend for help.  

Chase Wheeler feels like the biggest fool on the football team. The entire time he was dating Esma, he had no idea she was a vampire. In high school, Chase did exactly what Esma told him to. He let Esma plan their dates, pick his wardrobe, and even pack his lunches. Now, Chase has a month left before he starts college to forget the girl who froze his heart.  

When Chase lands an internship on the popular radio talk show Fred Head, he finds his voice and charts a future that doesn't involve domineering girlfriends. But all it takes is one text from Esma and Chase runs back to her waiting arms. Chase finds the courage to tell Esma that he's through with being bossed around right when Esma realizes she desperately needs Chase's input.

The only way home from this camping trip is to be bitten or smitten.

Would Vampires Camp or Glamp?

I am obsessed with tent trailers. There, I said it. Unlike the rest of my family, I hate sleeping on the ground, even in a super expensive tent from REI. That’s why when I wrote HUNT ME, the second book in The Puritan Coven series, I gave Morgan, Esma, and Cassandra a tricked-out tent trailer. HUNT ME is about an all-girls vampire camping trip that goes hilariously wrong when a Sasquatch hunter is accidentally killed. The cool think about pop up trailers is they are like magical houses that only appear at certain times. Most of their lives are spent collapsed into an 8 x 8 foot box at the side of your house. But then, when the weather is just right, you hitch the trailer to your truck or SUV and head off for adventure. It took me years to convince my husband that we should buy a tent trailer. Now that we own one, we have camped all over Washington State, Idaho, British Columbia, and Alberta. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any vampires or Sasquatches…yet.

   The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . BITE ME (The Purintan Coven, #1) . . . Fun. Lighthearted. Entertaining. Sweet. Although it was all these things to me it was not over-the-top syrupy. I found a connection with the characters especially with Morgan. I could relate to Van and his need for answers and his feeling of deception toward Morgan. The listen was good with the dual narration duo. The different perspectives was part of its appeal. The world created, the characters both primary and secondary were more than just one dimensional, and the setting was quaint.

A nerdy high school senior transforms into a vampire vixen who's unaware that her hunky date for prom is the slayer sent to destroy her.  

Morgan Taylor-Jackson can't wait for high school to end. In six months she leaves for UCLA and says goodbye to La Jolla, California, and her parents' messy divorce. But when Morgan is bitten by a four-year-old boy, she becomes infected with a mysterious condition. Fever, insomnia, and a new bustline are only the beginning; Morgan morphs from nerd to bombshell.  

As far as Van Xander is concerned, all vampires are evil, even the ones who reject human sacrifice and call themselves Puritans. When Helsing Incorporated sends Van to La Jolla to investigate the local coven, Morgan is his prime target. Pretending to be interested in her, Van asks Morgan out and puts her through a series of tests to determine her killer nature.  

Morgan is thrilled to be dating a hot guy like Van and falls for him hard. As Van strings Morgan along, he grows increasingly guilty. Morgan is kind, compassionate, and a gooey romantic. Just as Van's mind begins to change, evil forces threaten everything. When prom night arrives, there are only two ways out of the ballroom: death or immortality.

Q&A with Louse Cypress, author of BITE ME

  • Question One: BITE ME is about a nerdy high school senior who transforms into a vampire vixen, unaware that her hunky date for prom is the slayer sent to destroy her. What inspired you to write about vampires?
    • Louise: As a reader, sometimes I just want to read a book for fun. It’s the same thing as an author. In my day job, I write a lot of technical things that can be boring, so at night when I sat down to write fiction, I wanted to entertain myself. Like many readers, I can’t get enough vampire romance in my life, and BITE ME has humor mixed in, so hopefully it will make people laugh too.
  • Question Two: You mentioned humor, is BITE ME intentionally funny?
    • Louise: Yes, hopefully you find BITE ME to be laugh out loud funny. One of my favorite scenes is right at the beginning when Morgan is bitten. She’s in the bathroom, drying her hands on a towel, and a four-year-old vampire enters the room without knocking. Eighteen-year-old Morgan thinks to herself, “Don’t preschoolers understand about privacy?” This is a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
  • Question Three: In BITE ME, Morgan has a special relationship with her Grandma Mimi, who’s a real fashionista. Was that character dynamic inspired by your own grandmother?
    • Louise: Yes, in fact I dedicated the book to my Grandma Gerry, who always wore stockings, a silk dress, flashy jewelry, and a full face of makeup. She had her hair done once a week at the salon.
  • Question Four: Are there more books planned in the Puritan Coven Series?
    • Louise: Right now this is a three book series. Tantor Media is publishing the unabridged audiobook versions of BITE ME, HUNT ME, and SLAY ME.
  • Question Five: What’s HUNT ME about?
    • Louise: HUNT ME is a second chance romance about Morgan’s friend Esma, and her ex-boyfriend Chase. Here’s the hook: “An all-girls vampire camping trip turns deadly when a sasquatch hunter is accidentally killed.” Be ready to get sucked into the Puritan Coven!
