The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . NO HEARTBREAKER REQUIRED . .  . I not sure what it was but there was just something about Spencer and Taylor that didn't work for me. I loved Taylor. Spencer rubbed me the wrong way on many occasions. The romance was sweet and simple. It was what it was. I was just expecting more. It was just too easy to put down.

BLURB
When an avalanche crushes her world, Olympic hopeful Starr Taylor loses her job, her boyfriend, and worst of all, her confidence. She's working on getting her life back together and moving forward, and it certainly won’t be with Spencer Kensington, the far-too-attractive playboy lawyer she’s forced to play nice with at their friends’ wedding. Unfortunately, Spencer's trip to Reno gets extended unexpectedly, and Starr suddenly finds herself way too close for comfort with the man she's quickly realizing is more than he appears.

Spencer is a tough, no-nonsense New York businessman with a no-commitment rule in the bedroom. But a few days of living with Starr, feeding goats and helping her save troubled teens, has him feeling something he can't identify. In fact, the more Spencer gets to know the surprisingly vulnerable and tempting woman, the duller his superficial life in the city starts to seem. But everything he's worked for is waiting for him, and as Spencer’s flight back home grows closer, he's left wondering if the life he has is really the life he wants.

He walked to the edge of the porch and looked up at the sky, dotted with stars of different sizes and brightness. Now this was a view he didn’t have back home, not with all the lights. It was peaceful, relaxing. That welcoming feeling that made you think you might fit in. Could he fit into a place like this? More than likely, he’d be bored within a month, no, a week. Still, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt so at peace. Not even in Aruba last Christmas, alone.

Starr cleared her throat. “So how do you think it will go tomorrow for Matt? Mrs. Millard confirmed what I thought, that it’s his first time.”

First time caught. Spencer’s thoughts drifted back to his first time in court—and in juvie. It wasn’t a wallet he’d stolen, it was a baseball glove. An initiation into a group of friends he thought he couldn’t live without. “Matt’s charges will be read in front of the court, and then the judge will set his formal court date.”

“Sounds intimidating.”

“It seems a whole lot scarier than it really is, especially the first time.” He’d survived his first run-in with the law just fine and totally unrepentant. It was the second that screwed him—and saved him.
“Sounds like you’re talking from experience again.”

He turned around, rested against the railing, and focused on Starr’s silhouette nestled into the swing.

“Do you…have experience?” Her tone was laced with curiosity. It beckoned him, made him want to follow.

He opened his mouth to respond and then clamped it shut, thankful the darkness hid the confounded expression he knew he was sporting. What was it about her that made him want to drop his guard and say things he’d never otherwise say?

Get your head back in the game, man.

“I’m experienced in all kinds of things that would interest you.” He softened his voice, infusing it with just enough arrogance to make good on that promise.

She stood up, ready to walk away, no doubt. A good thing, really. She wasn’t his type.

But then she moved toward him. Had she changed her mind, about him? Had he misjudged her? The smell of lilacs wafted through the air as she approached, intensifying the need to reach out and touch her, though he didn’t. Not yet. She wasn’t like any woman he’d known before. He needed to let her drive this…this, whatever was starting between them. Patience, he reminded himself. Lots of it.

She stopped just inches away. Close enough for him to see some hope, or maybe it was curiosity, in her eyes. Close enough for him to feel her breath on his shoulder. Warm, and was it ragged? Or was that his? She licked her lips, and his eyes were mesmerized by the motion. He could barely tap down the need to taste them, feel his lips on hers.

“What do you want?” He needed her to be sure.

“I can have anything?” she whispered.

His breathing hitched. “Name it.” They had two nights—two long nights. More than enough time to experience all kinds of interesting things, if that’s what she wanted.

TOUR -w/EXCERPT - No Cowboy Required by JoAnn Sky

No Cowboy Required
by JoAnn Sky
Publication Date: May 14th 2018
Publisher: Entangled: Bliss
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . NO COWBOY REQUIRED . . . was a treat in small town life and sweet tender romance that comes from a second chance with the first love. Thought reluctant and determined Grace/Graci finds that going home can sometime be just what you need in your life. Grace did not step in to be the long lost big sister, dutiful daughter, or part-time lover. She got more than she was expecting out of this trip back home. Plans she put in place before her arrival had a way of changed to something different. Noah was a lifesaver and a pain. This was a sweet little read that gave me something to smile about. I found my first read from JoAnn Sky was a delightful one. There were areas that could have been more but this was a good start and heading in a good direction.

BLURB
Grace Harper is a pro at handling the unexpected—which comes in handy when she inherits the ranch she ran away from years ago…along with a young, autistic stepbrother she’s never met. And because nothing ever goes easy for her, Grace finds her frustrating, sexy ex-flame, Noah, taking care of JJ. But if she’s getting out of this nowhere town, she’ll have to find a way to keep from throttling Noah—without kissing him first.

Noah Taylor may be enemy number one to Grace, but she needs his help. He knows the girl he used to love is still there, beneath the heels and fancy clothes, so he’ll help her—and keep his distance like she says she wants. Only the more time they spend together, the closer he wants to get. Graci has no intention of staying, but she belongs in his arms—he just has to prove it to her.

Noah lugged her oversized suitcases, all three of them, into the mudroom then nodded toward them. “This mean you’re staying awhile?”
“Two weeks,” she muttered. “Fourteen days too long.” She walked into the kitchen. It was like stepping through a time warp. Same cracked sink, same yellowing linoleum floor, same Formica countertops. Blech. “Sheila did a lot with the place.” She peered into the living room. Worn rug, dirty walls.
Silence strung between them like an inflating balloon—stretching, stretching… Pushing on her chest. Suffocating her.
“I need to find JJ.” She cleared her throat and adjusted her jacket again. “The dirt-caked boy?”
Noah chuckled. “He’s probably down by the creek, or out in the fields watching the wild horses up in the foothills. I’ll walk back there with you.” He eyed her outfit, stalling on her heels. “You should change first.”
He was right; her clothes weren’t fit to slog through dirt and knee-high weeds. What had possessed her to get all dressed up? She knew the answer.
It was who she was now. It was her armor, her shield. It gave her courage. “I’m fine. Well, maybe just my shoes.” She looked at her suitcases. “Can you move my luggage into my room?”
“Uh, sure, but I’m sort of still set up there. I didn’t think I should stay in your daddy’s room.”
A squeezing sensation cinched her spine as she realized what he was saying. He’d been staying in her room, sleeping in her bed. Her bed. Dear Lord, the demons she’d battle tonight in her sleep. Her cheeks heated.
“That makes sense,” she rushed to say. “I didn’t realize, I mean, I get you’re watching JJ, I just wasn’t thinking.” But where did that leave her? She looked back at her luggage. “I’ll stay in town.” Her chest felt lighter as soon as the words left her lips. “It’s probably better. Like you said, JJ doesn’t even know me.”
“Don’t be foolish, Gracie. This is your home.”
Her eyes flicked to his, a snappy retort on her lips.
“I mean,” he said, softening his tone, “you haven’t sold it yet.” He tried for a smile. “Besides, you need to get to know JJ. You’re all the family he has now.”
“We’re not related.” She clamped her lips together wishing the words, fit for a six-year-old sourpuss, had never passed through.
“Blood isn’t a necessity for family,” Noah said tightly.
“I know.” But she still hadn’t gotten used to thinking of the boy as her brother. Judging from JJ’s greeting, the lack of kinship was mutual. And not something that would change overnight. The more pressing issue was where to sleep—and it certainly wasn’t going to be under the same roof as Noah. “Like I said, I’ll stay at a hotel.”
“You’ll stay here. I was planning to move to the cottage, just for a few days, until you and JJ get to know each other. George and I were using it as a work shed, but I cleaned it out when you called. Then you never showed. But it won’t take me long to move my stuff. This way, I’ll be next door if you need anything.”
Her breathing hitched. Next door? Of course, the cottage was next door. And his plan made sense, at least until JJ was comfortable with her. Still, it’d make more sense if it wasn’t Noah. And if next door wasn’t so close.
