Book two in the Perfect Stats series

BLURB
Everything comes easy to quarterback Gavin Knox—women, football, even money. However, the only thing he truly wants but can’t win is the beauty of his dreams, Remy Bell.

A simple favor to save the girl turns into the quarterback losing his heart.

As beautiful as she is fun, Remy Bell has only one problem—a psychotic killer with political power wants her dead. Always a ‘two steps ahead’ type of gal, she plans to outrun the maniac. Marriage and a sweet life in the football star’s hometown in Canada would give her the cover she needs, but Remy doesn’t stick around long enough to find out. She travels all over the world, photographing the most beautiful and devastating events, but her now-husband’s tabloid activities lead her to the one place she should avoid…back home.

Superstar Gavin Knox wins at everything. However, once he scores the girl of his dreams, he’s suddenly in danger of losing the one thing he has always needed. Before she can slip through his fingers, he offers her a deal she can’t refuse—marry him for Canadian citizenship, which will protect her, and after five years, they can divorce. Knox is positive that she will fall head over heels in love with him, but it doesn’t happen. After six years of marriage, two playoff titles and a third on the way, Knox is forced to contend with a successful wife almost more famous than he is.

Determined to get exactly what he wants, which includes having Remy and a family, he devises a stupid scheme that puts everything he’s worked so hard for in jeopardy.
EXCERPT:
With less than a minute on the clock, Gavin Knox faked right and threw the ball to his running back. His teammate’s gravity-defying catch took place in the end zone, resulting in their game-winning touchdown. As the band played the school’s fight song, the student body of Michigan Institute of Technology flooded the field.
Letting out a ferocious howl, Knox snatched off his helmet. For the second time in a row his team was headed to the championships. With only one more year left in college, Knox looked forward to the Heisman Trophy Ceremony and a single digit position in the professional draft.
It may have seemed arrogant on his part to assume that he had a right to any of those things, but he had worked his ass off. He had mapped out his whole career since the age of twelve. In his freshman year of high school, Knox had transferred to America from Canada to secure his spot in the pros. He’d then followed it up with enrollment at a Big Ten college.
Intending to get drunk off his ass, Knox scanned the crowd for his best friend, Hawk. On his way past a couple of his teammates, he slapped their heads as he moved closer to the stands—and that was when he saw her. A chocolate-colored honey ran straight at him. Her letterman jacket showcased her body-hugging, tight sweater and perfect tits. Since she was focused on something over her shoulder, Knox felt safe to peruse her banging-ass body without judgment.
However, once she turned those big, almond-shaped eyes in his direction, his whole world came to a sudden and glorious halt. Shiny black curls bounced up and down, framing her heart-shaped face. Simple and utter perfection barreled straight at him.
As she licked her full lips, instant wood clouded his mind. Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t seem to stop himself. Fate had other plans. Flashes of what life would be like if he didn’t talk to her propelled him into action. Knox reached out to snag her around the waist, bringing the beauty inches from his mug.
“Where did you come from?” he asked her.
Confusion shuttled across her stunning face before she tilted her head to the side and smiled. “Nowhere.”
“So you just fell out of the sky?” It might have sounded lame, but he meant every word of it.
“Technically, you grabbed me. So, what happened here?” She checked out the field. “Did you win something big?”
“If the answer’s ‘you’, then sure.” As he looked into her eyes, he almost forgot the last few minutes of his life.
“Do you mind?” She glanced down at the ground. “The air’s kind of thin up here in Giantsville.”
Though he was reluctant to let her go, he set her down.
“So, what…? Are you like the main guy?” she asked, looking totally serious.
Knox laughed. He couldn’t help it. Obviously she didn’t care about football. “Something like that.”
“Which makes you a supastar, right?”
Positive that she didn’t have a bra on under her soft, cream-colored sweater, he desperately wanted to feel her body against his one more time.
“Are you going to tell me your name?” he asked abruptly. She glanced over her shoulder at something. For a split second he wondered if she had a boyfriend, but, truthfully, he didn’t care.
“And make it easy for you? No, but”—she raised onto her tiptoes and Knox leaned down to meet her halfway—“dream about me, okay? Then just maybe…” The warmth of her candy-scented breath heated his cheek.
Tempted to tip his head down a little farther to intercept her lips, he froze and hit the dreaded blue screen.
“Hey, man, congrat-u-fucking-lations!” His friend Hawk grabbed him in a big bear hug. When the melody of her laughter kicked him into gear, he realized that the beauty had disappeared.
Knox searched the crowd but couldn’t find her. “Where did she go?” he asked.
“Who? What the hell are you talking about? I didn’t see anybody.”
Positive that she’d given him a hint to her name, he ran through the possibilities in his head.
“The press wants to talk to you. Then we’re going out to celebrate.” Hawk patted him on the back and led him toward the locker room. Still shell-shocked by his encounter with the hottest girl he had ever laid eyes on, he reluctantly followed his friend.

TOUR - Last Resort by Amber Malloy

Last Resort
by Amber Malloy
Publish Date October 21st 2017
Publisher: Evernight Publishing
Genres: Interracial/BWWM, Romance/Suspense

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . LAST RESORT . . . One romantic suspense that had the hint of more. There was that banter, snark, secrets, mystery, friendship, differences, and someone trying to kill Cayden. I got more than I was anticipating. I was looking to get a good read but this one put me over the top. I was only to read a few chapters to get my feet wet and I ended up finishing the entire read in one sitting. These two friends but not friends from high school had opposites written all over them.

Cayden was the rich-girl from the right side of town and Levi was the bad-boy from the other side. Things could not have been set up for them to be more different. Cayden had made a name for herself as a crime writer. She came back home to her own very cold case and was working to find the answers. She just was not expecting that a different side venture would result in her obtaining a partner to figure this mystery out.

The trigger for me in this romantic suspense was that the female, Cayden, was the one that came from money. She was the one that had a great career and was going places. She was smart and resourceful. The female took lead character to a new high or at least set her on a different path than the majority of the female leads in romance reads.  This was in no way a bad reflection on Levi. He was male after all. It was just different to see the woman take charge and move forward.

The resort here was more like a common denominator for the read. Levi wanted his family resort back and Cayden was the partner that he had to get rid of, not fall in love with.

BLURB
African American socialite and bestselling crime writer Cayden Young returns to her high school stomping grounds to solve a cold case. Unfortunately, her hot business partner is in her way. In love since high school, they couldn’t work out their rich-girl, poor-boy differences. While she attempts to put the past to rest, she ends up unearthing a more than a decade-old secret that could get her killed.

Former Marine Levi Scott is ready to take over his family’s resort fulltime. The only problem is he needs to buy out his partner, who he happens to be in love with. Always on unsure footing with the wealthy beauty, he is determined to get her out of his life for once and all, and decides the best way to do so is offering to help her solve a thirteen-year-old cold case. Soon, they figure out the murderer may still reside in their posh resort town … and Cayden could be next on their list.

Excerpt:
Since the third step always creaked under foot, he counted to ten before he flipped on the lamp and loosened his tie.
“Holy shit, Levi! What the hell?” She jumped while he bit back a chuckle.
“Isn’t that my line?” Beads of water from her shower gathered on her skin. She wore a pair of barely-there yoga shorts, and Levi could see straight through her tank top. Round, full breasts were easy to make out beneath her stretched-too-thin material.
“There’s no way that event ended this early,” she scolded him.
“Forgive me for ruining your heist … should I leave and come back to let you finish?” Everything about the woman turned him on, starting with her messy bun and black-framed glasses.
No rich-girl representative or spoiled brat came to steal time in his shower spa. Instead, the real girl next door stood in front of him. “My shower was one thing, Ms. Young, but my last bottle of wine?”
She held onto a bottle of Riesling, shipped from the Italian vineyard that wanted the resort to use them exclusively. “Do you not remember telling me to stop taking wine from the resort?”
“There’s this thing called inventory, and if a bottle is missing,” he spoke slowly as if talking with a child, “it is considered stolen. Much like what you’re doing right now.” He pointed to the contraband in her hand.
“I beg to differ. You don’t even like Riesling, Mr. Scott.” She smiled innocently. “So what happened? Did you forget something?”
“Now that you mention it…” Taking off his tux jacket, he threw it off to the side. “What do you think about this couch?”
Cayden shook her head, probably not following his line of questioning. “Heirloom? It doesn’t really go with the décor.”
“Exactly! I worked my ass off to make this place look … what’s the word?”
“Modern,” she offered.
“Manly. But we’ll go with your term. Look at this craftsmanship … dark, hardwood floors, straight lines, and that kitchen is a work of art. I made that farmhouse table by hand,” he bragged, glad she didn’t interrupt. “Then there’s this monstrosity … a red velvet Victorian. And let’s not forget the piano. No one plays that shit. Why the hell do we even have it? My mother claims it’s too valuable to put in storage, so she leaves this crap here.”
“I’m guessing you want to get rid of it?”
“Of course, but you know Lydia’s weapon of choice is guilt,” he complained while rolling up his sleeves. “I was thinking if I changed or altered it in some way, then maybe I could tolerate it.”
“Hmmm.” She tilted her head to the side while she relaxed her stance. “What do you have in mind?”
“For starters, I’m going to put you on top of it, and eat your pussy until your head explodes. After that, we can wing it.” Levi didn’t know if she would accept his proposition, but he didn’t anticipate the smile that slowly graced her pretty lips.

SPOTLIGHT w/INTERVIEW - Fear Nothing by Amber Malloy

Fear Nothing
by Amber Malloy
Publisher: Resplendence Publishing, LLC
Genre: Interracial Romance/Action
One psychotic soldier was to blame.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . Fear Nothing . . .

My first read with and not my last. I was enticed by the pull and push between Skye and Bohdi. My heart strings were pulled by the loss Skye was suffering. I could feel her hurt and betrayal with the return of Bohdi to her life. I then came to understand the reasoning behind his departure. Watching them reconnect again, of course a killer was after her, was warming.  I look forward to experiencing more of Malloy’s work. This short kept me going all the way to the end.

MY INTERVIEW WITH AMBER MALLOY
How would you describe your style of writing to someone who has never read your work?
That’s a hard one … I try to create a whole new world for the reader.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general, whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?
None at this point, because I have to get it in where I can. I used to blare music and knock back some wine. Now, I just need time.

Do you take your character prep to heart? Do you nurture the growth of each character all the way through to the page? Do you people watch to help with development? Or do you build upon your character during story creation?
For character prep, I start with their strengths and then smack you with their insecurities. I want the reader to know the characters in a way they can figure out their motives to any given situation.

Have you found yourself bonding with any particular character? If so which one(s)?
When I’m writing the story, I think bonding does happen. However, once the book is done I move on to the next one.

Do you have a character who you have been working on that you can't wait to put to paper?
There’s a few, but unfortunately there’s a line and they have to wait until their number is called.

Have you ever felt there was something inside of you that you couldn't control? If so, what? If no, what spurs you to reach for the unexperienced?
People shy away from things they fear, so when I find myself doing that I try to go toward the experience. I think the key is realizing that the anxiety is happening and what’s causing it.

SPOTLIGHT - Spies R Us by Amber Malloy

Spies R Us
by Amber Malloy
Release date: February 2nd 2017
Publisher: Totally Bound
Genre: Erotic Action Adventure

BLURB
The top African American spy, Eden Morgan, was living the good life…

Days away from permanently leaving the spy game, Eden Morgan plan of being a stay at home mom goes up in smoke. Number one on the Russian hit list, Eden must leave her beautiful family and figure out who’s trying to kill her.

Unfortunately, her agency burns her status, so what should have been only weeks on the run turned into years. Instead of accepting her fate, Eden claws her way from the dead to save the next people on the Russian’s hit list… her kids. However, after three years missing, her homecoming isn’t well received. She finds that her awesome husband has moved on with a perky school teacher; not to mention her twins barely remember her. With a good idea who’s behind the plot to kill them, Eden must navigate car pool lanes, bitchy moms, and one angry, sexy husband.

By definition, Vann Morgan was charmed. One gorgeous wife and twins, and the most difficult thing in his life was reconstruction of his Chicago brownstone. Unfortunately everything changes when his lovely wife disappears and no one but him seems to care. After some years, Vann makes a new normal as a single dad, but his routine is blown apart when his long lost wife comes back. Unable to trust Eden with his heart, he soon uncovers that everything surrounding her disappearance was all his fault.

When Mommy's A Spy
Moms have to wear many different hats—chef, nurse, chauffer, and maid are custom built into the job. Eden Morgan is a kick ass mom who wanted to give up her life as a spy … that’s right, this new mom was a spy. What happens when a strong woman desires a different life? First we have to ask why this mom wanted the old one.

In business, dominant women can be viewed as sexless bitches. It is the weaker persuasion who are in need of a good, strong man to keep them in check. In other words, can women be bad asses while being soft, cuddly mothers? Sure! What title can be used other than double agents? With so many balls in the air, why can’t the woman who hunted down the bad guy be the same person to potty train a toddler?

Without question men are allowed to be anything their heart desires. Father, spy, Agents of Shield, even president—the sky is the limit and no one questions their masculinity or whether they can do it all. Women, on the other hand, don’t have it so easy. Motives are questioned, as is whether she can raise a family and work a high priority job. Even after seventy years women’s rights are still a hot topic … why?

Eden Morgan came from the generation in which women could have it all. A spy for a secret sect, this bad girl was saving the world. However, once she ran into Vann Morgan all of that changed. Soft in all the right places, she can shoot a gun and kill a man with her bare hands, so why would she give it all up? People change. What may have been a hard exterior was always a soft inside, and why not? The perception that women have to be hard as nails in such a position is a farce. Real life spies wouldn’t be able to walk around with that Angelina Jolie pout. In zero point two seconds she would be shot upon entering the room. There has to be some type of likeability to make a woman spy work.

Vann Morgan had no idea his wife was a shoot ’em up, bad ass. He believed he married a sweet hot thing, who wanted to have his babies … and guess what, she did. Eden felt she married the sexy guy who showed her something that she wasn’t aware she wanted—stability, house, and a family. Spies R Us is about releasing the past to allow the good of the new to arrive. Unfortunately, it’s messy much like life tends to be.
