“If you take me with you, I’ll do anything,” he said. To buy Astor some time. To get out of there.
She opened the door and pushed him out, preparing to close it again, but he put his foot in it.
“Anything?” she asked.
“Anything.”
“That’s a dangerous word when there are fates worse than death.” She tilted her head again to the side, an amused look on her face. “You’re a strange man, Kol.” She slammed the door, and he was alone in the darkness.

LIGHTNING ROUND
Q: What genre do you read?
I almost exclusively read fantasy and science fiction.
Q: What genre do you write?
Fantasy and science fiction, but mostly fantasy. Within fantasy, I like to write fantasy romance.
Q: What was the first book you fell in love with?
Like many kids, I loved the Harry Potter series. I was severely disappointed when I didn’t get my acceptance letter to Hogwarts.
Q: What was a book you said you would never pick up again?
The Old Man and the Sea. I have a peculiar distaste for anything by Hemingway.
Q: Which fiction character do you love?
Zero Two – she’s an anime character, but I love her. You’ll see a little bit of her in Alessi if you read my book.
Q: Which fiction character do you love to hate?
Edward Cullen – he’s hot but too sparkly.
Q: Which fiction character do you hate?
That guy who cut off Maleficent’s wings in the movie. F*** that guy.
Q: What beverage do you drink while reading?
Coffee. Give me a pot of coffee and some carbs, and I can write for 15 hours.
Q: What do you snack on while reading?
Whatever’s closest to me. But seriously, chocolate or nuts.
Q: Have you always enjoyed reading?
I’ve enjoyed reading since I was first able to. I was one of those weird little first graders who’d always be toting around a 500+ page book. Even then, though, I strongly preferred fantasy.
