BLURB
Midpoint: A Memoir is an immigrant woman’s story of perseverance and building a legacy future generations can be proud of.

Patricia Angeles is at the midpoint of the average human lifespan. Decades of experience, mistakes, love, and loss have led her to contemplate what anyone might when they’ve lived half their life. “What kind of legacy am I leaving behind? What do I want my friends and family to remember after I’m gone? What are the biggest life lessons I can impart while I’m still here?”

Through this collection of personal stories, Patricia attempts to assess her answers to these questions, and perhaps encourage others to do the same. Spanning from her childhood in Manila to her immigration and life in Los Angeles, these stories touch on her youth, her acclimation to American culture, her remarkable career in the world of banking, her thoughts on motherhood, the important people who made her who she is today, and major events that forever changed the trajectory of her life.

A raw, honest, poignant, and at times funny read, Patricia aims to inspire her readers to pursue happiness against all odds and to not settle for a life of mediocrity. Through the power of story, this book ultimately asks: What are we but the accumulation of our experiences?

“Try better every day. Not only is it a reminder to stay aligned with my personal philosophy, but it is also a testament, an acceptance that I am flawed, as we all are.” – Patricia Angeles

The Book Junkie Reads . . .Reckless Dreams  Interview with  . . . Patricia Angeles . . .

How would you describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
I naturally lean towards descriptive writing with a heavy use of imagery and of the five senses. I’m extremely detail-oriented and this translates to all facets of my life—my work most especially. I like painting pictures through the use of words, and for me, the joy of writing is to make my readers a part of the story and not merely bystanders.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?
I don’t have a rigid routine, and I rely solely on inspiration. I’ve learned that being inspired is the most optimal mindset for me because this is when the ideas naturally flow. Inspiration comes to me in different forms and at the most random times. It could be an impactful line in a book, experiencing an act of kindness, witnessing beautiful scenery, etc. which will suddenly spur me to write. I love these moments and try to take advantage of them.

Can you share your next creative project(s)? If yes, can you give a few details?
It has always been my dream to write YA Science Fiction. I’ve just completed a Dystopian writing course with the amazing Madeline Dyer, and I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned. I’m currently in the research phase and exploring worldbuilding ideas, and I’m enjoying every bit of it. All I can reveal at this point is, it’s going to be completely different from my memoir – Ha! But I promise, it will be a fun, wild ride.

Do you have a character that you have been working on that you can't wait to put to paper?
Ah yes. As a follow up answer to the previous question, my next book’s main protagonist is a character that’s dear to me. I’ve shaped her to reflect my own strengths and flaws, albeit amplified due to the circumstances that she’s been thrust into. This character is everything I was in my youth and everything I’ve aspired to be.

Where would you spend one full year, if you could go ANYWHERE, money is not a concern? What would you do with this time?
It would be somewhere off-the-grid where I can rid myself of gadgets and material things and truly be one with nature. Perhaps a remote island somewhere in the Caribbean or atop the Andes mountains. I’d revel in the beauty of the world, live in simplicity with the locals, pen and paper at hand at all times, recording every feeling and experience.
