Genre: Romantic Suspense
An emergency call to pick up an injured stallion on the side of the road sends Alexandra Hart, the new owner of Hart's Horse Rescue, into action. A recent addition to the area, she is not impressed when the animal's taciturn owner shows up. With his less-than-stellar disposition, he’s the kind of man she normally avoids at all costs, unfortunately, he owns the ranch just down the road.
However, when the manhunt for a pair of escaped prisoners gets a little too close for comfort, Jonas turns out to be a better neighbor than she expected.
The Alex who shows up at his ranch to help with his prize stud’s recovery is not exactly who Jonas Harvey expected. This is the same bleeding heart he met on the side of the road. Worried she’s not up for the job, he’d prefer to keep a close eye on her but his High Mountain Trackers team gets called in to track down a group of domestic terrorists.
But the slip of a woman proves him wrong. On all fronts. Alex not only charms his horses but him as well, and when trouble comes calling she proves to be a worthy ally to boot.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . HIGH MEADOW (High Mountain Trackers, #1) . . . Jonas was a surprise not a shock. There was more to him than the gruffness he displayed. At times I thought maybe he was even surprised by his gruffness with Alex. Now, Alex was smart, sassy, strong, and determined. She loved horses. She knew horses. She respected horses. She did not respect, like or know Jonas. That was until she did. Watching the two dance around each other then interact with each other was a good thing. There was something there between them that only took one match to set off. Jonas went from a gruff ass to a man with layers. He was not willing to give his horse to the lady on the side of the road. He would fall this up with hiring someone to care for the injured stud. This same woman would be the very one he did not give much thought to at first meeting.
There are more things going on in the area than the High Meadow ranch and the animal rescue were ready for. Jonas takes a few beating but gets back up and keeps moving. He is determined to keep Alex safe at any and all cost. There are many other wonderful characters to find a relationship with. For me one of the bad guys was a surprise.
Freya Barker has provided me with some of the most entertaining most reality of grown-folks business. The romance between her characters feel like the friends you watch take hold of life and make the decision this is right for them. I love falling in love right along with them. I loved meeting the new characters (primary and secondary).
