Excerpt:

Allvis grunted his disgust bringing an abrupt end to my vain attempts to gain my freedom when he pressed the blade in his other hand to my neck with a firm pressure. I sucked in a sharp quick breath and held it. One wrong move on my part was certain to send the sharp edge slicing deep into my throat. I’d be a goner for sure.
I gritted my teeth tighter. Hands clamped around his wrist, I dug my nails in deep, ripping at his skin to ease the blade away, and relieve the pressure. He put an abrupt end to my efforts by looping my hair around his fist again and jerking me at least another inch higher. The movement caused the blade to nick my skin. I dangled like a puppet from a string in his grip.
“Lynzi!” I read my name on Layne’s lips, horror and desperation carved into his face as he screamed for me, pounded the air, and begged Aunt Pet to work faster.
Allvis howled again. “Hey, boy! Where do you want me to leave her head when I separate it from her weak little human body?”

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Interview with Larynn Ford

How would you describe you style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
The covers of books one and two in my trilogy may give the impression they are westerns. I sometimes have to explain that even good ol’ boys in the deep South wear cowboy hats and that my books are just that…country stories in a country setting. My style of writing is full of down-home flavor and might take you for a ride in a pick up or have you strolling through the woods on a moonlit evening. Maybe in human form, or maybe that of a giant cat.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?
I’m at my best early in the morning with a full pot of coffee at my side. I also enjoy my country music playlist in the background. Most of my successful writing days start that way.

Do you take your character prep to heart? Do you nurture the growth of each character all the way through to the page? Do you people watch to help with development? Or do you build upon your character during story creation?
I do rely on facial expressions and body language of people and try to describe them accurately. Since I write cat shifters, I also watch my own kitties, Evy and Ivy as they play and hunt and then incorporate their movements into the lives of my were-panthers and were-cougars.

Have you found yourself bonding with any particular character? If so which one(s)?
Yes! All my heroines. The struggles they face sometimes hit close to home. Protecting your family against the evil that threatens to rob you of your happiness is a human trait I believe every woman possesses.

Do you have a character that you have been working on that you can't wait to put to paper?
Yes! I ran across a name a few years ago that stuck with me. It announced to me that it belonged to a vampire. I’ve been against writing about vampires from the beginning feeling they were way over done. This name lingered in the back of my mind and even attached itself to a man’s image and home. Still, I had no intentions of writing a book about a vampire…until today when Luther Blalock started talking to me. So, now it looks as if I’ll be plotting a new book and you are correct, I can’t wait to get him on paper☺

Have you ever felt that there was something inside of you that you couldn't control? If so what? If no what spurs you to reach for the unexperienced?

I have always been a daydreamer. The ‘what if’s’ ran wild in my mind as long as I can remember. At times I thought I was losing my focus on the reality of life but now that I’m using the answers to those ‘what if’s’ to create stories. I see that having a hard time controlling my daydreaming might just be a good thing.
