BLURB
He wasn’t supposed to choose her…
Seafaring prince Dilys Merimydion has been
invited to court the three magical princesses of Summerlea. To eradicate the
pirates threatening Calberna and to secure the power of the Sea Throne, Dilys
vows to return home with a fierce warrior-queen as his bride. But politics has
nothing to do with unexpected temptation.
She didn't dare wed him...
A weathermage like her sisters, Gabriella
Coruscate’s gentleness exemplifies the qualities of her season name, Summer.
Yet her quiet poise conceals dangerous powers she cannot begin to wield. Better
to live without excitement, she reasons, than risk her heart and lose
control—until an irresistible Sealord jolts her awake with a thunderclap of raw
desire.
Until evil threatens everything they hold
dear…
When pirates kidnap Summer and her sisters,
Dilys begins a desperate quest to save the woman he loves. Only by combining
his command of the seas with the unleashed fury of Summer’s formidable gifts
can they defeat their brutal enemies and claim the most priceless victory of
all: true love.

Excerpt:
You can
get off me now,” she ordered, mimicking Autumn’s haughtiest tone.
He didn’t
move. Instead, he locked his gaze on hers and, with slow deliberation, laid his
left wrist flat against her right.
Summer
sucked in a breath and went rigid be- neath him as a fresh surge of energy shot
through her. Only this time, instead of an electric thunderclap that stunned
the senses, this surge fired up every sen- sual cell in her body. If Dilys
hadn’t been straddling her, she would have wrapped her legs around his waist
and dragged him down atop her. As it was, she burned for him in the worst way.
The way his nostrils flared and his tattoos went bright with a fresh burst of
phosphorescent blue light only fanned the flames of her desire. She wanted to
command him to touch her . . . to kiss her. Her gift of Persuasion flared,
bringing the words and the magic to the tip of her tongue.

WILSON grew up camping and waterskiing across America, from Cherry Creek
reservoir in Denver, CO, to Lake Gaston on the border of Virginia and North
Carolina, to Georgia’s Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona. When she wasn’t
waterskiing and camping on family vacations, you could usually find her with a
book in one hand and a sketch pad in the other—either reading, writing stories,
or drawing.
Sometime
around the ninth grade, she decided she was better at drawing her pictures with
words than paints and charcoals, and she set aside her sketchpad to focus
entirely on writing. Wilson is active in Tampa Area Romance Authors (TARA), her
local chapter of Romance Writers of America.
When
not engaged in writerly pursuits, she enjoys golfing, swimming, reading,
playing video games with her children, and spending time with her friends and
family. She is also an avid collector (her husband says pack rat!), and she’s
the proud owner of an extensive collection of Dept. 56 Dickens and North Pole
villages, unicorns, Lladro figurines, and mint condition comic books.
Wilson
currently resides with her husband, their three wonderful children, and their
little black cat, Oreo, in a secluded ranch community less than thirty miles
away from the crystalline waters and sugar-sand beaches of Anna Maria Island
and Siesta Key on Florida’s gulf coast.
The Book Junkie Reads . . . Interview with
C.L. Wilson . . .
How would you
describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
Descriptive. I’m a
very visual writer, and I write fantasy romance, emphasis on fantasy, so I
spend a lot of time worldbuilding and drawing word pictures of fantastic
places, people, and beasts. I also try
to make my writing very emotional and evocative.
What are some of
your writing/publishing goals for this year?
Finish the book!
(well, in this case, a novella and a book at least). That’s always my goal. I really, really want to finish a new Fading
Lands project. I’ve had readers patiently (and I do mean patiently) waiting for
years for me to return to the Fading Lands, and I’m ready to go back. I also want to either finish or mostly finish
THE JAGUAR KING, book 3 of the Mystral Series.
Do you feel that
writing is an ingrained process or just something that flows naturally for you?
I know I’m not a plotter.
Plotting is death to my writing process.
I can’t imagine everything that’s going to happen in a book, and if I
could, I couldn’t write it, because the journey of discovery is part of what
keeps me interested and keeps me writing.
But I’m not a complete pantser either.
I have discovered (through sometimes painful trial and error) that I’m a
plantser. My process involves
determining the GMC (Goal, Motivation and Conflict – both internal and external)
of my hero, heroine, and villain, and then determining the four major turning
points in my story (or at least what I think they will be) and then writing
towards them. Everything else comes to
me as part of the journey…which is why I can get so stuck sometimes, but I
cannot do it any other way, and believe me, I’ve tried.
Do you have a
character that you have been working on for a long time that still isn't quite
ready, but fills you with excitement to work on the story?
Oh, yes.
Melliandra, the little Eld girl from the Fading Lands. I’ve been wanting to write her story for
years, but other things have to come first.
But I am working on what may be a series of short stories about her,
because I love her so much, and due to her age a lot of time has to pass before
she’s ready for her own romance.
And Autumn’s guy, who doesn’t even have a name yet. He
and Autumn will have the 4th Weathermages of Mystral book, which I’m
calling THE DRAGON KING. Cannot
wait. He’s going to be so much fun to
write!
If you could spend
one-week with 5 fictional character, who would they be?
From my own books, I would totally spend a week in the
Fading Lands with Rain, Ellie, and the gang.
And I’d want to spend more than a week.
From other books, I’d LOVE to spend time with Jacques and
Shea from Christine Feehan’s Carpathian Series, Mad Rogan and from Ilona
Andrew’s Hidden Secrets series, Carrow
and Malkom from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series, and Luke Skywalker. And, okay, Kirk, Spock, and Bones. And Legolas. Wait..you’re limiting me to
FIVE??
Where would you
spend one full year, if you could go ANYWhere? What would you do with this
time?
I would like to spend a year about the Starship
Enterprise, discovering new lands and new people, and boldly going where no one
has gone before.
Or, on earth, I’d love to spend a year in Alaska. Or possibly Australia/New Zealand.
Or Middle Earth
Or the Fading Lands
Can you share you
next creative project(s)? If yes, can you give a few details?
One of my Fading Lands projects is about the Sief of the
Pale (the frozen land north of the Feyls).
I’m really excited about it and have already started it. The Sief are tribal hunter/gatherers with
types of magic we haven’t really seen yet in the Tairen Souls series. My heroine is a Spirit Walker with the
ability to bind the souls of various animals to her, granting her their eyes,
ears, and fighting/scouting abilities. When her brother disappears from the
annual gathering of the Sief, she goes in search of him and stumbles across a
wounded Fey warrior who’s lost all his memories.
My Mystral project is THE JAGUAR KING. Don’t want to give to many spoilers, but the
hero, Miq, is a shapeshifter from the jungles of Ardul. The evil despot, Gulah Zin, has been
systematically wiping out the various clans across Ardul, sacrificing their blood
and magic to gain dark powers. Miq’s own
clan lands have been destroyed, his parents murdered, his sister stolen along
with dozens of his friends and clanmates, and he and his small team of jaguar
warriors head into the dark heart of Gulah Zin’s territory to save them.
